We have this weekend, been at the first (for this year) of our now regular slots with the team at Rossendale Holiday Cottages and Budding Rose Yoga – at their popular seasonal yoga retreat.
Quite automatically at this time of year we allow ourselves to slip into the routines that the social structure dictates: the first full working week, children back to school, everyone scheduling to Greenwich Mean Time. More and more products and experiences are sold to us based on the holiday season they represent that might allow us a little distraction: a good break (Christmas, Easter, Summer Holidays) a long weekend (Spring & Summer Bank Holidays) or just the odd special occasion (Valentine’s Day, Mothers Day, Fathers Day, Halloween). From the High Street to the online store you will find a marketing cycle based around these calendar dates that serve to distract us from the stresses and strains of working life – with the spending of disposable income on what has become fashionably known as ‘Retail Therapy’.
‘Retail Therapy’ is itself nothing more than a marketing term that supports this cycle; in fact ‘Retail Therapy’ is no therapy at all, it is a short lived feeling of happiness, much like a sugar rush.
The Therapy served up this weekend at Rossendale Holiday Cottages gave the guests something much more than distraction.Unlike other retreats there is no strict regime – the yoga sessions complemented with delicious food, glass of wine (if you wish), massage, aromatherapy, country walks and local exhibitions or events as options to invigorate mind, body and soul.
Creating a space at home each evening for exercise or meditation can be of great benefit and help nudge you to discover fresh ways to deal with the domesticity of life. Finding a quiet space at work for a three-minute meditation, can refresh your mind just enough to allow you that little bit of perspective needed to resolve an issue. But what a retreat offers you is the opportunity to get away from the day to day, revive your mind and refresh your spirit.
A weekend yoga retreat at Rossendale Holiday cottages allows guests to take full advantage of getting away from it all, placing health, fitness and wellbeing at the focal point of the mind; creating a suitable enough distance from the structures that dictate the day to day and presenting an opportunity for fresh perspective and re-evaluation.
