I usually cover CPD in the blogs, but I felt this going back to basics was necessary as there have been quite a few posts on social media groups recently from people asking about record cards and how they can access them. This is quite worrying! We know there are lots of people currently practising who are not qualified to Level 3 (UK National Occupational Standards), those who have so called diplomas from on-line and /or a weekend course. If you are one of those people, I urge you to go and find an accredited course (see list below) and get qualified. For those who have successfully completed a level 3 qualification they would have and know, how to complete a detailed consultation prior to treatment and they would do this with any new client.
The level 3 Diploma requires a minimum of 105 hours class contact with an additional 370 hours independent study. It will cover anatomy, physiology and pathology, client consultation, movements and techniques, health and safety, principles of good practise and much more.
Here is an example of a health declaration, it is by no means exhaustive and the one to one professional consultation with the client will help to draw out anything that isn’t covered. This design has evolved over the years, from regular consultations with my students and will no doubt change and develop as issues arise. We felt, my students and I, that it needed the initialled ongoing health check to ensure we kept up to date with the client.
This list by no means exhaustive, but please do check that your diploma is nationally recognised at level 3. Let’s raise standards and make it more difficult for those who aren’t qualified to practice:

Please stay safe when you’re practising and stay up to date with CPD and as always, let me know your thoughts.
